Obituary for Joseph Alonzo “Lonnie” Powers Powers, Joseph Alonzo “Lonnie”, Esville, Michigan. Joseph passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones Saturday, April 14, 2018 at McLaren Bay Region Medical Center. Age 72 years.

Son of the late Thomas R. and Laura Belle (Ammon) Powers-Welch, Joseph was born October 4, 1945 in Bay City, Michigan. He married the love of his life Jacquelin K. (Smith) Lewis on August 21, 1999 and assumed the role of step-dad for a second time. Joe was employed at Delphi for 35 years before retiring December 2007.

Joe wore many hats. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful stepfather, a great brother, a super silly Papa, a true friend and a hard worker. No matter which hat Joe was wearing, he wore it well and he wore it with pride.

His wife and siblings adored him, his stepchildren thought the world of him, his grandchildren couldn’t get enough of his antics and his friends knew he was the real deal. Joe loved spending time with his family and he loved them all dearly. He was the family jokester and loved playing tricks on his loved ones and making them laugh.

As much as Joe loved to be silly, when needed he was the family’s rock. His wisdom and compassion are irreplaceable. When Joe wasn’t spending time with his family he loved taking long rides on his Harley, going fishing, watching birds, singing, playing the guitar and sitting down by the river to think, while people watching.

Joe was an amazing cook and loved to serve up a delicious meal for his loved ones. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Jacquelin Powers; his stepchildren Eric (Heather) Gust, Cindy (Dennis) Shimel, Michelle (Jason) Bringer and April (Chad) Andrews; his grandchildren Alexandra, William, Claire, Marley, Grace, Isabella, Riley and Adam; his siblings, Thomas (Nellie) Powers, David (Rhea) Powers, Faith Doud, Johnny (Bonnie) Powers and Laurie (Dan) Welch-Christ; many nieces and nephews; his fur baby, Harley; and his very special friend, Mark Satkowiak. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Chester Welch; his sister, Linda Muringer and his stepson, John Gust.

The family would like to thank the awesome nurses and doctors of the Critical Care Unit at McLaren Bay Regional Medical Center. Your efforts and exemplary care during the last week are appreciated. Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.
