Obituary for Joseph Alvin Horde Joseph Alvin Horde, born October 6, 1941 to the late Antionette Swayne Harrison, Joseph transitioned into eternal rest at the VA Hospital on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 about 1:30 in the afternoon. He was a graduate of L.B. Landry’s Class of 1958. He attended Tyler Community College in Texas where he met his first wife, after which he enlisted into the U. S. Army.
Joseph was baptized at Regular Baptist Church of Gretna, LA. by the late Rev. Dan Powell.
He later moved his membership to Progressive Church of Marrero, LA. Joseph is survived by his first wife, Frankie Wrather Horde and their three children Donaldson Wrather, Diane and Connie Horde. A former wife, Tammy Bradley and their daughter, Chloe Horde.
The other surviving children are Darryl Newell of Sacremento, California, Allen Zena of Stafford Texas, Dana Gary Vincent (Michael), Chrishon Christophe of Houston, Texas, Haushon Miller, Christopher Alford of Atlanta, Georgia, Monica Rainey and Debo. He is survived by one Uncle Emanuel Swayne and two aunts: Lois Ellison (Calvin) of Berkley, California and Mary Martin of San Francisco, California. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws: Gwendolyn Edinburgh Harrison and Emma Monroe.
One nephew, Benjamin Harrison of Portland, Oregon, three nieces: Donna and Monica Monroe and Donisha H. Ragas also a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends. Joseph was preceded in death by his mother Antionette Swayne Harrison, two brothers, Charles Monroe and Manuel Harrison, Jr. and one niece Arsenia Harrison. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Progressive Church are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Progressive Church, 437 Cohen Street, Marrero, LA.
70072 on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM. Pastor Sterling Mealancon, officiating.
Interment: Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil St., Gretna, LA. 70053.
