Obituary for Joseph P. Ombry Beloved father, grandfather and teacher passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Esville, Michigan. Age 92 years. The son of the late Joseph and Rose (Corrado) Ombry, Joe was born December 23, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He married Kathleen Mitchell on March 17, 1960. She predeceased him August 30, 1994.

Joe earned his Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Certificate at Alma College and his Master’s Degree in Theatre from the University of Michigan. Joe taught at Birch Run Schools for eight years and Bridgeport Schools for 26 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Bridgeport Education Association, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, which included lay ministry and choir, and Knights of Columbus Council #4232.

Joe was active in Pit & Balcony Theatre and directed school plays. He was a determined golfer, an avid history buff and a loyal University of Michigan, Detroit Tiger and Detroit Lions fan. Joe loved his dogs, Bogie, Sunny, Smudge, Georgie Girl, Holly, Hector and Skippy.

Surviving are two sons, one daughter and their spouses, Michael and Grace Ombry, Bay City; Stephanie Lighte, Ann Arbor; Joel and Jamie Ombry, Grand Rapids; five grandchildren, Charlotte, Seth, Lauren, Sarah and Jack; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Marylee Tyler, Sandra Ryan and Tom Michell; several nieces and nephews. Honoring Mr. Ombry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish-St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 614 Pine Street in Esville, Michigan.

Rev. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate.

Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. , (between Shattuck and McCarty), in Saginaw, where the family will be present on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service, led by Sister Janet Pewoski, CSJ, will take place 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
