Obituary for Joseph M. Sorrentino Joseph Matthew Sorrentino, 92, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, May 4, 2018 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 30, 1925, in Beloit, WI, the son of Frank and Rosa (Pellegrino) Sorrentino. Joe was a veteran of WWII serving on the USS Laws in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Navy.
He married Paula “Jean” Stewart on August 18, 1951 in St. Paul Catholic Church. She predeceased him on May 26, 2017. Joe was employed for 43 years by Fairbanks Morse & Company.
He was a member of Fr. Destefano Knights of St. Paul, and a former member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Joe was instrumental in the annual Spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
He was a volunteer at Beloit Memorial Hospital and Hands of Faith. Joe was a cofounder of Saderfest and a cofounder of the Angel Museum. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, bowling, slow pitch and decorating at Christmas.
Joe was a multi winner of the Beloit Daily News Christmas Decorating contest. He was dedicated to his family as well as the community. Survivors include his children, Rose Martin, Paul (Jodi) Sorrentino, and Michelle Sorrentino all of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Heather (Greg) Kitts, Nakenya (Cornell) Taylor, Alvin (Shameeka) Martin, Marisa (Zachery) Franks, Kendra (David Warne) Gessler, and Alexzander T. G. Sorrentino; great grandchildren, Kendall Cross, Azariah Martin, Aniya Martin, Ayvin Martin, Zavier Franks, Mandalyn Franks, Angel Warne, Griffin Warne, Sophia Kitts, and Taylor Kitts; brother-in-law, Jack (Margaret) Stewart of Janesville, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Charles Sorrentino; sisters, Leona Canova, Lena Bergeson, Mary Fink, and Angeline Sorrentino. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, 822 E. Grand Ave. , Beloit, WI.
Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the V.F.W. Post #2306. Visitation of remembrance will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a scripture service at 4:30 p.m. A memorial will be established at a later date in his name.
