Obituary for Judy Puckett Spencer 79, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Episcopal Church Home surrounded by her children. She was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, daughter of the late Marshall “Speedy” and Ruby Kimberlin Puckett. The family spent the majority of their lives in Shelbyville where most of her father’s family lived and where she graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1957.

Shelbyville is also where her close cousins, with whom she consistently kept in touch, still live. In fact, about a hundred gather every other July for a family reunion and others gather each December for Puckett Cousins Christmas. Her beauty and boisterous behavior attracted the attention of Charles M. Spencer Jr. who she married 59 years ago.

Judy was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 28 and Charlie remained her constant companion and primary caregiver for the past 10 years before he passed away in April 2018. Her life always brought tears — of laughter! Countless tales can be told of her escapades with friends and cousins.

Even in her final weeks with dementia, she could laugh and add to a story or two. She even made the Episcopal Church Home caregivers laugh because of her magnetic personality. Judy was a take-charge woman in all aspects of her life, especially her battle with arthritis.

She never let the pain of her disease get her down and endured many surgeries to help provide her with better mobility. She loved the hospitality business. She began her career as a Hotel Restaurant Manager and worked her way up to Regional Manager with three hotels.

She loved cooking and playing bridge. She was involved in various roles at school and church as well as Brownsboro Farm where the family lived for decades. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Patricia Runyan, her brother, Marshall “Mike” Puckett and her loving husband, Charles M. Spencer Jr

She is survived by her children, Martin Spencer, Angela “Angie” Sullivan, Diana Baker (Michael Baker); and three grandchildren, Spencer Sullivan, Paul Baker, and John Baker. A Celebration of her Life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home “in St. Matthews” 3711 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY 40207. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
