Julia’s Obituary On March 29th, 2019, at the age of 85, Julia moved from this life to her new home with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born March 10, 1934 in Sunflower, Mississippi to Benjamin Samuel Clower and Pauline Morgan. She attended high school in Sunflower County before starting college at Delta State University.
She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. While at Ole Miss, she met her best friend, Walter Henry Rose, and they were married only a few months later. This wonderful marriage endured for 65 years.
Julia taught school in the Tobacco Road Community of Richmond County, Georgia. There, she would bring two children home each week for a hot bath and a meal. She also provided them with new clothing and shoes before returning them back home.
She continued this ministry their entire time living in Georgia. She later taught in Jackson, Mississippi at McWillie School while her husband attended Medical School at the University Of Mississippi School Of Medicine. After they made their home in Indianola, she began teaching at Indianola Academy until she left to be a full time home-maker.
She was very active in her community in the 20th Century Club, Bridge Club, Explorer’s Bible Study, Lay Witness Missions, Indianola Academy, Gideons, Emmaus, and the First United Methodist Church in Indianola. She accompanied her husband on many mission trips to Honduras where she stayed true to her calling by dressing children and buying them shoes in the villages. She truly walked her talk and her life is a reflection of her love for her family and her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Pauline Clower; her brothers Master Sergeant Samuel Clower Jr. and Dr. Bennie Rance Clower; her sisters Margorie Coleman (Harry), Faye Stevenson (Bill), and Bebe Romine (John). She is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter Henry Rose; one son Dr. Walter Samuel Rose (Carol) of Indianola, two daughters Julia Rose Hill (Allen) also of Indianola, and Ann Rose Patridge (Bruce Abel) of Grenada. She leaves behind nine grandchildren Cassey Rose Hardin (Mark), Walter Samuel Rose II, Walter Benjamin Hill, Tyler Harris Hill, Sarah Allyn Hill, Joshua Paul Hill, Julia McNeill England, William Wayne Hobson, and Morgan Rose Hobson.
Lovingly, she also leaves three great grand-children Rose Cameron Hardin, Maryn Claire Hardin, and Everlee Mills Hardin. She was blessed with wonderful help over the last few years, which included Mary Cole, Debra Bolden, and Donald Sanders. Services will be held on April 2, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola.
Visitation will be at 1pm with the celebration of life service following at 3pm. Interment will be held at the Indianola Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made the Missions Program at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, Gideons International, Indianola Academy, or the charity of your choice.
