Surrounded by her family, Julie Arvin Annis, 69, of Lakeville, IN, passed away on December 26, 2018, after a year-long struggle with lung cancer. Julie was born on July 10, 1949 in Lafayette, IN, to the late Kenneth and Rose Arvin. Julie enjoyed growing up on the farm in Remington, IN, and loved to attend Fountain Park Chautauqua in the summertime.
She attended Remington School for 12 years, graduating from high school there in 1967. She attended Indiana University, Bloomington, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1970. She then graduated with a Master’s Degree from Purdue University in 1972.
She taught at Crouch Elementary School in Lafayette, IN, for 3 years and First Grade at LaVille Elementary for 35 years. Teaching was her life’s work and she had a special way of bringing out the best in her students. Julie received a Gifted and Talented Endorsement from Purdue in 1986 and served as the Coordinator for Union-North Schools.
She was a member of the St. Joseph County Library Board for 16 years, and then continued as a member of the St. Joseph County Library Friends Board. Julie and Greg Annis were married June 16, 1973, at Remington United Methodist Church. She loved her family and spending time with the grandchildren was the best treat ever!
She was a coach and active supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Survivors include her husband, Greg, and their 2 daughters: Lesley Annis (Michael) Hoenes, Lindsay (Joe) Schirripa, and 4 grandchildren: Laurel and Nola Hoenes; and Benjamin and Libby Schirripa. Other survivors include her sister, Cheryl (Ed) Smith of Syracuse and brother, Kenneth Scott (Linda) Arvin of Remington, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, Glen and Fay Annis. Funeral Services for Julie will be held at 2pm on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Lakeville United Methodist Church, Lakeville IN. Pastor Brian White will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will follow at Fair Cemetery, in North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 4pm -8pm, at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 North Michigan Street, Lakeville, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff that worked with Julie for their dedicated care and service.
