Obituary for Laura Lea Stokes Laura Lea Stokes, 57, passed from this life on December 23, 2018 at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 2, 2019 at the Glencoe Church of Christ. Laura Lea Stokes was born July 8, 1961 in Pueblo, Colorado to Peggy McNew and Harold Wheeler.

Laura graduated in 1979 from McPherson High School in Kansas and immediately moved to Glencoe, OK, where she met and married Tim Stokes on October 20,1979 at the Glencoe Church of Christ, where they were members. Laura and Tim settled in Glencoe and actively worked in their community from sports to Fireman’s auxiliary to FFA Ag Booster events. Laura attended and graduated from Cushing Beauty College.

Upon completion she opened and operated Laura’s Family Hair Salon for 10 years. Laura especially loved working on elderly women in the community. Most of the time she did not even charge them she loved seeing them smile after she had done their hair.

She truly meant Family Hair Salon because she did hair from parents to about every niece and nephew she had. It was not about the money for Laura it was about generosity and giving back for Laura. Laura loved her family; her health did not allow a lot of activities but she always enjoyed her football games with Jeremy.

Laura loved feeding the ducks at the park in Glencoe with Tim. Laura would take in any stray animal because she could not tolerate any living thing not having a home. Laura spent a great deal of time watching the birds, her favorite were blue birds, red birds and hummingbirds.

She and Tim always enjoyed morning coffee, where they began their day. Laura loved her children and grandchildren. She loved Halloween at Mom’s, so she could see all of her grandchildren enjoying the holiday.

To them she was (Nan) who never missed an opportunity to watch them play farm, cars, and their sports. Her only regret was that her boys and the grandkids grew up too fast. She was especially proud of her son’s Dusty and Kyle.

She admired so much the fact that Dusty made his career as a Fireman in Stillwater, Ok. She loved watching Kyle (her daredevil) compete in motocross racing and was proud that he later become an EMT. Laura is preceded in death by her mother; daughter, Melody Ann Stokes and her grandson, Maveric Stokes.

She is survived by her husband, Tim of the home; two sons, Dusty and wife Stephanie, Kyle and Lonna Stokes all of Glencoe, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Chance, Caleb, Cooper, Braydon, and Jagar; her parents Harold and Joyce Wheeler of Glencoe, Oklahoma; sister’s, Carla Wehr, husband Dennis and family of Coyle, Oklahoma and Chris Atkins, husband Alfred and family of Glencoe, Oklahoma; one brother, Lynn Scrogum, wife Jessie, and family of Morrison Oklahoma; Numerous Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
