Obituary of June Elizabeth Rice June Daugherty Rice, of Roaoke, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019. She was born July 7, 1932 in Covington, Va. to the late Bernie C. and Mabel Wood Daugherty.

In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Kenneth S. Rice, Sr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ashby L. and Musa L. Steele Rice; son-in-law, Edward Lilly, and a great grandchild, Abigail Rice. June traveled to many places in the United States and the world while her husband was in the military. She volunteered and worked with many groups for various causes, such as the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, the Alzheimers Association, American Business Women’s Association, Women of the Moose and most recently as a member of the Roanoke Valley Church.

June put on talent shows, baked and decorated cakes for many events, gave piano lessons, worked at a newspaper and eventually worked for and retired from Reliance Universal here in Roanoke. June will be missed dearly by her loving family and friends. June was generous with her time and compassion.

She so loved the times she could share with her family and friends. Surviving are a sister, Lelia Fadley and husband Franklin; daughters, Karen Lilly of Virginia, Anita Mattingly and husband Mike of Minnesota; sons, Kenneth Rice, Jr. and wife Sue, of Ohio; Robert Rice and wife Susan, of Virginia; grandchldren, Christina Lilly, Belinda Overstreet and husband, Stacy, Edward Lilly and wife, Stephanie, Elizabeth Bailey and husband, Trent, Deborah Sweeny and husband, Paul, Kenneth Rice, III, Daniel Rice and wife, Renee, Amy Fuhs and husband, Matt, Zachary Rice; great grandchildren, Keryston Hutson, Aminee Hutson, Angelina Overstreet, Casey Overstreet, Tori Lilly, Edward Lilly, IV, John Lilly, Colton Lilly, Austin Bailey, Layla Bailey, Lil Roy Bailey, Rebecca Sweeny, Paul Sweeny, III, Andrew Rice, Avery Rice, Aiden Rice and a great great grandchild, Layne Mohler. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Funeral serivces will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Jon Landis. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery 5500 Bagging Plant Road Dublin, VA. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2019 at Simpson Funeral Home.
