Obituary for Katherine J. Twenhafel Katherine J. Twenhafel, 90, of rural Gorham, passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at home. Katherine was born on November 26, 1927, in Sand Ridge, IL, a daughter to the late Larkie J. and June T. (Tripp) Snider. She was first united in marriage to Kurt Christensen; Kurt preceded her in death on September 1, 1980.
Then on February 12, 1983, she was united in marriage to Martin Twenhafel at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob. Martin survives of Gorham. Katherine was a member of the Murphysboro United Methodist Church.
She was a registered nurse having been employed by Southern Illinois University Carbondale and was also a homemaker. She attended St. Louis University School of Nursing and Southern Illinois University. She was a member of the University of Illinois Home Extension/ Murphysboro Day Unit, Jackson County Republican Women’s Association.
She was a member and past president of Murphysboro American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 Women’s Auxiliary, and past chapeau of Jackson County 8/40. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Murphysboro United Methodist Church. Rev.
Larry Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018, at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and from 9 a.m. until the hour of services on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Murphysboro United Methodist Church or Christ Lutheran Church or School and will be accepted at the funeral home and church. Survivors include her husband, Martin Twenhafel of Gorham; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Mary Jo Twenhafel of Gorham, Wayne and Cathy Twenhafel of Jacob, and Roger and Terri Twenhafel of Murphysboro; five step-grandchildren, Mark (Deana) Twenhafel, Mike (Angie) Twenhafel, Christy (Jason) Gardner, Nick (April) Twenhafel and Lori (Ross) Dobson; eleven step-great-grandchildren, Dacoda Twenhafel, Conner Twenhafel, Blake Twenhafel, Brady Twenhafel, Tripp M. Gardner, Ethan Dobson, Ella Kathryn Twenhafel, Hudson Twenhafel, Beckett Dobson, Case Gardner, and Demi Gardner. She is also survived by several close cousins, Dean “Fuzz”(Beverly) Snider, Gene (Maxine) Snider, Lyle (Sue) Snider, Michael Snider, and Barb Luzader.
