Obituary for Kathy Tuttle Smith Kathy Sue Tuttle Smith, age 65 of Woodbury, formerly of Carlisle, IA. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 13th at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chariton. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Private interment in Cambria Cemetery, Iowa.

Memorials preferred to Kathy’s family to defray her many medical expenses. Kathy passed from this life into the loving arms of her heavenly father on June 7, 2018 following cardiac surgery in St. Paul, MN. Kathy was born on January 14, 1953 in Bloomfield, IA.

to Curtis and Marietta(Kirchner)Tuttle. One year later, Kathy was joined by a baby brother, Steve, who quickly became her playmate, confidante, and all around “partner-in-crime”. They grew up on a farm near Derby, IA where they learned to work, love family, and love Jesus.

Kathy and Steve were later joined by 2 foster brothers, Jim Carter and Julius(Red) Willet. Kathy’s family raised turkeys during most of her years at home. Caring for these animals was challenging for the entire family.

Everyone worked hard! Kathy attended Wayne Community Schools at Corydon, IA and graduated in 1971. She was active in band and vocal music.

She attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Il, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She also attained her Master of Science in Education degree at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. Kathy accepted Christ into her heart at an early age.

She was dedicated to serving her Lord and others each day of her life. She had an unbreakable faith in God and had the desire to share Jesus with every life she touched. Kathy was known for voraciously studying the Word of God.

But, what friends and family of Kathy will primarily remember her for was being a faithful prayer warrior. Kathy was united in marriage with Raymond Smith on June 9, 1984. They lived in Carlisle, IA early in their marriage where she taught at Carlisle Community Schools.

They moved to Woodbury, MN in 1985 when they both began teaching for New Life Academy in Woodbury. Kathy dearly loved her students at New Life. She poured her heart into each young person who entered her classroom.

Her career lasted 29 years at New Life Academy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Smith and her father, Curtis Tuttle. She is survived by her mother, Marietta Tuttle of Chariton, IA; brother, Stephen (Cheryl) Tuttle of Urbandale, IA; foster brother, Jim Carter of Harrison, AR and foster brother Red Willet of Marshalltown, IA; two nieces, Heather (Mike) Nehre and sons Andrew and Matthew of St. Louis and Sarah (Dan) Cooper and children Lily, Jack and Sam of Denver, IA.

; many cousins, family members and many, many friends. Kathy’s greatest desire is that all of her family and friends will join her in heaven. Please be sure you have asked Jesus to forgive your sins so you will be able to see her there.
