Obituary for Kenneth Lee Weddle Long time Muskogee resident and business man, Kenneth Weddle departed this life on Nov 14, 2018 after a short illness. Kenneth was the son of Ole and Fay Weddle; he was born Dec 4, 1936. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Doris of Muskogee; 4 children, Kathy and Chad Daugherty, Margie and Paul Bowman, Marcy and Jeff Moran, Beth and Gary Cooper; grandchildren Joel, MaryKathryn and Ian Daugherty, Hannah, Luke, Sarah Grace and Rachel Bowman, Adam (wife Alexa) and Zachary Moran, Kenny and Molly Cooper.
Kenneth had one living brother, Jim and his wife Glennie, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by numerous cousins and their spouses, one especially close, Frank Lake and wife Alice; along with numerous other family members and friends. Kenneth was a member of the graduating class of 1955 at Muskogee Central High School and active in DECA and choir.
He later received his Associates Degree from NSU. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Muskogee. He had served in many capacities at his church, including a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, RA Leader, and served on many committees.
He was also a member of Oklahoma Baptist Foundation Board of Directors. Kenneth was involved in the family business, Weddle Food Stores from the time he was a young boy and as an adult. After the death of his father, he was involved in the business with his two brothers and later became the sole owner of the family business.
After the closing of the food stores, Kenneth worked with Plantation Nut Company as a Sales Manager and then became a partner in GK Home Furnishings with his daughter, Beth and her husband Gary Cooper. Always an active member of many organizations including past president of Muskogee Rotary Club, past president of Oklahoma Retail Grocers of Oklahoma where he made many trips to Washington D.C. to lobby for small businesses. Later in his life he served as an officer and committee member for Kate Frank Apartments, because of this involvement he became a resident of Kate Frank Apartments where he was residing at the time of his death.
Kenneth served as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve and was called to active duty during the Cuban Blockade in 1963. After being involved in the Oklahoma Distributive Education Club, Kenneth was nominated in 1967 for outstanding community service by former teacher Mrs. P.L. Gassaway and was honored with this award by the United States Jaycees. Kenneth was a Christian and always actively witnessed to his beliefs and in his service to his God and his Savior Jesus Christ.
He will be remembered as a loving, kind friend, husband, father, and PaPa. Preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Fay; brother, Harold and his wife Chris. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm, Friday, November 16, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be 10AM, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Muskogee First Baptist Church. His sons-in-law, Jeff Moran and Paul Bowman along with Pastor Johnny Derouen will be officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
