Kenneth L Bruegger, 85, of Burlington, died at 11:05 PM Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the Oakview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington. Born August 29, 1932, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Raymond Nicholas and Marie Teresa Anderlitske Bruegger. On July 5, 1954, he married Joan Claire Fischer in St. Paul Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa.

She passed February 7, 2010. Kenneth worked as a machinist for the Burlington Northern Railway for 44 years. He was in the National Guard for 30 years and was President Armory Board.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts and coached Little League baseball. He was an avid sports fan and golfer. In school, he lettered in several sports and went on to play semi-pro baseball.

He enjoyed crafts and landscaping. Survivors include four daughters: Cathy Bruegger of Monterey, CA, Judy (Hans) Jones of Minneapolis, MN, Beth (Ben) Wilbert of Hawthorn Woods, IL, Jennifer (Jason Dreckmeier) Bruegger of Burlington, IA; three sons: David (Myra) Bruegger of Burlington, IA, Jim Bruegger of Burlington, IA, John (Lisa) Bruegger of West Point, IA; eight grandchildren: Jesse Dodge, Ellen Bruegger, Emma Wilbert, Chloe Wilbert, Madison Dreckmeier, Kyden Dreckmeier, Sophie Bruegger, Kayla Bruegger, one son-in-law, Ken Lefler, Iowa City, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, LuAnne Lefler, four brothers, and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 4:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Monday, July 30, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Bruegger will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul’s Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant.

Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at St. John’s Cafeteria following burial. Memorials have been established for the Special Needs Foundation and Great River Hospice.
