OBITUARY Kenneth Southall June 4, 1921 – July 29, 2018 Kenneth Southall, 97, beloved husband of Marian Agnes (Schwager) Southall for 72 years, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Kenneth was born on June 4, 1921 in Massachusettes and was the son of the late Douglas and Jane (Ryall) Southall of England. Kenneth received his Master’s Degree from UConn, class of 1958.

Kenneth proudly served in the U.S. Army, during his military career he was stationed in Africa, Italy and England. His primary role was photo interpretation work for use in target charts for the 12th and 15th Air Force. Before being honorably discharged as a Technician 4th Grade from Company A of the 941st Engineer Topographical Battalion in 1945, Kenneth was awarded two battle stars, the American Service Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and The Presidential Unit Citation.

He and Marian married in 1946, they settled in Connecticut and raised their family. He enjoyed a wonderful career as a Mechanical Engineer at AMF Cuno where in 1985 he retired as the Director of Research and Development. After retiring, he and Marian enjoyed more than thirty years in New Hampshire, finally returning to Wethersfield in 2014.

A skilled craftsman, he enjoyed creating woodworking masterpieces that will be treasured by his family. Kenneth was a member of the Elks of Hartford and the Lions of New Hampshire where he met many friends. Most of all, Kenneth was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who in addition to his beloved wife will be missed by his children, Bryan, Barbara-Ann, Kevin and Patricia.

He will also be missed by his adored grandchildren, Kristen, Erik, Alicya and Max Suffish, Ellen, Brandon, William, Heather and Brittany along with 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Douglas Southall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish (St. Elizabeth Seton Church), 280 Brook Street, Rocky Hill.

Everyone is asked to go directly to church. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill. There will be no calling hours.
