OBITUARY Francis Joseph Albano July 30, 1936 – September 16, 2018 Francis Joseph Albano, (“Fran” or “Frank”), 82, of South Windsor, formerly of Hartford, beloved husband of Judy (McMahon) Albano, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on September 16, 2018 surrounded by his family. Fran was born in Hartford on July 30, 1936 and was the son of the late Alphonse and Christine (Pontillo) Albano. Fran grew up in Hartford and attended St. Augustine School and Bulkeley High School.
Fran was employed by First National Warehouse and Frasse Steel Company. He was also the owner of Villa Alfonso’s Restaurant in Kensington and owned a food truck where he proudly served the construction workers during the building of the Civic Center and the new Bulkeley High School. His favorite job was for the East Hartford Board of Education as Head Custodian at O’Connell School, where the children fondly referred to him as “Mr. Frank”.
Fran was a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. Elks (Hartford #19) and the Sons of Italy (Ella Grasso Lodge). He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Fighters Club.
Fran and Judy married on May 1, 1965 and enjoyed 53 years together, raising their children and traveling to Bermuda, Florida, St. Martin, California, Las Vegas, Ireland and Italy. Fran enjoyed watching his N.Y. Yankees and his trips to Saratoga to watch the horse races. Fran will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He especially enjoyed time with his family. On Sunday’s everyone would gather to enjoy his homemade sauce and meatballs and no one will ever forget his fettuccini alfredo. Fran always welcomed everyone to his table and was a true friend and confidant to all who knew him.
Fran’s grandchildren will also cherish their memory of Papa making the most delicious milkshakes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Christine Kelly and her husband Tom of Rocky Hill, and their children Thomas and Erin. He is also survived by his son, Francis A. Albano and his wife Shauna of Bedford, New Hampshire and their children Tristan, Cillian and Rian.
Fran also leaves behind many close relatives along with his many friends, including the Thursday morning breakfast guys. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish at St. James Campus, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill.
