Obituary for Larry Volz Larry D. Volz Larry D. Volz, 62, passed away at his residence Monday morning July 9, 2018 after a courageous battle fighting cancer. Larry was born on March 3, 1956 in Shelby, Ohio. He was a 1974 graduate of Crestview High School.

He had worked at ODOT as a diesel mechanic and had taken care of the mowing at Franklin Cemetery for many years. He was the hardest working man you would ever meet. He leaves behind his wife, Tina and their children, Mike (Amy) Volz and Cheryl (Andrew) Young and the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Brooke & Bailey Young and Matthew & Allison Volz and his special friend, Doug Fulk, he loved you like a brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Volz. He will always be remembered as the best Papa to his grandchildren; if something needed fixed from four-wheelers to broken necklaces, they knew that he could take care of it. He was so proud that he helped his children construct their homes and was always there to fix a furnace, an appliance, a car, or whatever needed done.

He could repair almost anything. He was meticulous about keeping his yard and landscaping looking good, as well as woodworking. Larry’s other passion was baseball.

He was past president of the Union Athletic League and coached for both Union and Crestview High School baseball. His favorite recent memories were coaching with his son Mike and traveling all over with Matthew’s team. He loved his trips to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed but always in our hearts. We were so blessed to have children, grandchildren, and friends in our lives. We thank you all so much for the help with trips back and forth to the Cleveland Clinic, and for all your prayers.

We would like to thank our children, Mike & Amy Volz and Cheryl & Andrew young. Special thanks to Andrew for always taking care of Larry’s yard and all you have done over the past year. We are so appreciative of our dear friends who sacrificed their time, money, and vacation days to help us out.

Doug Fulk, Susan Davis, Sara Dinsmore, Lanny & Joyce Young, Neil & Becky Hergatt, Bonnie Thornsberry, as well as our home health nurse Jenny Dravenstott. Thank you all for being so good to Larry, it meant so much to him and our family. At Larry’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A private graveside service will be held. For those wishing to express their sympathy to the family, you may do so by visiting denbowfh.com Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the Volz family with the arrangements.
