Obituary for LaVerne Marian Walters LaVerne Marian Walters, age of 91, passed on to be with the Lord on November 2, at the Bethany Pointe Health Campus in Anderson, IN. She is survived by her husband, James; sons Phillip (wife Connie) of Clinton, IN, Jim (wife Susan) of Columbus, IN, John (wife Faith) of Anderson, IN; and daughter Christine McMasters of Stonington, CT; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and only brother, James Morgan.

LaVerne was born on July 4, 1927, in South Chicago Heights, IL, to Thomas and Myrtle Morgan. She graduated from Cayuga High School, Cayuga, IN, in 1945. On September 9, 1945, in Danville, IL, she married James Elwood Walters of Cayuga, IN, and they recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Through the years, she faithfully served alongside her husband who pastored Church of God congregations in New Springfield, OH (1953-57), Kendallville, IN (1957-60), Columbus, IN (1960-67), Princeton, IN (1967-90), and Noblesville, IN (1991-2005). LaVerne was employed as an office secretary at Arvin Industries, Columbus, IN (1962-67). While living in Princeton, IN, she was the executive secretary at Potter & Brumfield/Seimens Corp.

(1967-89). After retiring from Seimens and moving with her husband to Anderson, IN, she served as the Treasurer of New Life Community Church, Noblesville, IN (1991-2004) where her son, Jim, was the senior pastor and her husband was an associate pastor. At her passing, she was a member of the Madison Park Church of God, Anderson, IN, and active in her Sunday School class.

Throughout her years she was an inspiring mentor to many young women who were beginning their marriages and raising their young children. She found great joy in serving the Lord, in her family, in playing the organ & piano at church and at home, cooking, and sewing. A funeral service celebrating LaVerne’s legacy and life of faith will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2:00 p.m., at the Madison Park Church of God, Anderson, IN.

Officiating in the service will be Rev. Jim Lyon and Rev. Tom Malbone.

Music will be provided by Jay and Amy Rouse. Visitation will begin at noon.
