Obituary for Lee W. Bird Lee William Bird, age 96, died September 10, 2018 in Saline, Michigan. He was born May 10, 1922, in London Township, Michigan. After graduation from Milan High School, he raised crops on the family farm, then worked at the Ypsilanti Ford plant until his retirement in 1988.

He married Martha Swiger of Wilsonburg, West Virginia on June 18, 1955, and they raised their family in Milan, Michigan before retiring to Brecon Village of Saline in 2012. A lifelong United Methodist & choir tenor, he was a member of the Dundee United Methodist church at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Bird, in 2016 and his parents, Frances (Faling) & Alden Bird.

He is survived by his children Kathleen (Bill) Culbertson of Ann Arbor, Jeff (Bobi) Bird of Jackson and Betsy (Jeff) Hurd of Orion, Michigan, his grandchildren Joel Bird & Sara (Matt) Kourtjian, Michael Hurd & Katelyn Hurd, Daniel Culbertson & Stephen Culbertson, and one great-granddaughter, Aurora Kourtjian. Friends are invited to attend his memorial service, which will be held Saturday, September 15, beginning at 1:00 pm in the auditorium at Brecon Village, located at 200 Brecon Drive in Saline, Michigan. In honor of Lee’s great love for music – and Handel’s Messiah in particular – please consider a donation to the University of Michigan Choral Union, www.
