Obituary for Letha “Lavon” McFarland Letha “Lavon” McFarland, 81, of Muskogee, Oklahoma entered Heaven’s Gates on Monday, June 18, 2018. She was born August 2, 1936 to Merl William Birth and Nellie Elizabeth (Anderson) Birth in Keefeton, Oklahoma. Lavon graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1955.
She married the love of her life, Garland Joe McFarland, on April 21, 1956 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared over 62 years of life and marriage together. Lavon worked as a County Election Inspector for many years and was a long time member of the County Election Board.
She was also a member of The Salvation Army Church in Muskogee. Lavon enjoyed many things in life such as crocheting, reading and traveling with her family. She was a dedicated wife and mother who loved taking care of her family.
She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Lavon was preceded in death by her parents, Merl and Nellie Birth; son, Joe Von McFarland; twins, Donald Wayne McFarland and Donna Elaine McFarland; siblings, Larry Dewayne Birth, Gerald Wayne Birth, Merlene Shultz and Carol Ann Hammonds; and son-in-law, James Landry. She is survived by her loving husband, Garland Joe McFarland; children, Debra Kay Landry, Ricky Dale McFarland and wife Debbie and Paula Sue Patterson and husband Ralph; grandchildren, Tina Lynn Penny, Shawn Dale Crabtree, Donald Joe Mitchell and Johnathan Willis McFarland; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice Kohen, Paula McLain and Darrel Birth; and several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
A family visitation for Lavon’s family and friends will be 5:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M., Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A celebration of Lavon’s life will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 22, 2018 at The Salvation Army Church in Muskogee with Major’s Dave and Sue Dewan officiating. Interment will follow at Bennett Cemetery with Tim Katowich, Johnathan McFarland, Jared Landry, Gunner Raynor, Donald Mitchell and Shawn Crabtree serving as pallbearers.
