Obituary for Chester Loyd Martin Jr. Chester Lloyd Martin, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 7, 2018, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. A public viewing and visitation will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home on Sunday, June 9 from 2-5 PM. Graveside services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, June 13th at Fields Cemetery Porum, OK.

Martin, son of Chester Loyd and Marguerite Griebel Martin, was born October 15, 1932, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He graduated from St Joesph Preparatory School in 1952 and served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. He continued public service as a member of the Muskogee Police Force for 20 years and served as Vice-President of the Muskogee Area Fraternal Order of Police and retired a Captain.

He worked for 10 years at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. Active in athletics his entire life, Martin was a multi-sport All-State athlete while at St. Joseph, but he is mostly remembered as a well-respected coach in the Muskogee area who left a positive influence on many local youths and helped guide them to athletic success. He was a founder of the Paul Young Football Organization and the Green Country Girls Softball Organization.

He loved his OU Sooners. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Martha Blair Martin; sister, Kay Martin O’Hara; 5 children, Terrence Mickey Martin, Julia Howard Phillips, Jana Howard Estep, David Howard, Angel Martin Owens; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Wofford, Jerrad Dry, Dalton Yandell, Matt Martin, Richard Owens, Hannah Owens, CJ Howard, Jack Howard, Dustin Howard, Grant Howard, Blake Martin; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Katy Howard Andren; son, Darren Howard; great-grandson, Braxton Martin; and son-in-law, Joe Phillips.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mission 22 (mission22.com) or Fellowship Bible Church, Ft Gibson OK. The family will receive friends from 2-5PM, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service celebrating Chester’s life will be 10AM, Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Fields Cemetery in Porum, Oklahoma with Pastor Billy Parker officiating.
