Obituary for Phyllis C. Durland Phyllis Charlene Durland, 90, entered Heaven’s gates on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at her home with her family at her side. She was born November 21, 1927 to Corbet J. Scroggins and Sallie Nunley Scroggins. Phyllis attended Keota Public Schools and graduated in 1945 as the Class Historian.
She furthered her education at Northeastern State College with a Bachelors of Science in Education Degree in May of 1967. She worked for Cherokee County Welfare Department as a Social Worker for 8 years. Phyllis obtained her teaching certificate and began teaching in the Muskogee Public School System until she retired in 1987.
Phyllis married the love of her life, Glenn Jordan Durland, in Van Buren, Arkansas on May 1, 1948. They shared many happy years of life and marriage together. Her hobbies were cooking, playing bridge, bowling, and she loved nothing more than spending time with her family.
Phyllis spent many hours volunteering for Muskogee Regional Medical Center, Department of Human Services, NEA, OEA, and other organizations and received many certificates. She was preceded in death by her parents, Corbet and Sallie Scroggins; husband, Glenn Durland; brothers, Elzie “Sonny” Scroggins, Cyril Scroggins, and Jack Scroggins. Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Susan Julian and husband Ron of Tulsa, Kathy Durland of Muskogee; son, Philip Durland of Tulsa; grandchildren, Carla and Chris Durland of Muskogee, Erin Garrison Penera of Tulsa; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Jobe of Broken Arrow, Trenton Durland and Treann Johnson of Muskogee; great-great grandchildren, Kaidan Jobe and Azaliah Jobe of Broken Arrow; sister-in-law, Billie Scroggins; brother-in-law, Alan Durland; along with various nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
The family suggests memorials to be made in Phyllis’ honor to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 W Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK, 74401. The family would like to express a very special “Thank You” to the faculty of Miller Hospice for their love and care shown to Phyllis. A memorial service celebrating Phyllis’ life will be 1PM, Monday, July 30, 2018 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev.
