Obituary for Robert D. Goodpaster Robert Donald Goodpaster, 84, passed from this life at his home on July 26, 2018. Bob was born on October 27, 1933 to Samuel and Ahrah Goodpaster in Muskogee, OK. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and proudly served his country in the Korean War for two years working in the artillery survey section.
In 1956, Bob went to work for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier, eventually becoming the fleet supervisor, before retiring after 38 years. After retirement, he worked for 10 years as a house parent at the Oklahoma School for the Blind. Bob’s life centered around his family and church.
He married the love of his life, Ruby, on March 2, 1956 and with her celebrated 62 years of marriage. They lived in the same home they built together for 56 years. He served as treasurer and then deacon at Eastside Church of Christ for many years before eventually becoming a member of West Side Church of Christ.
In his spare time he enjoyed spending time in his garden, fishing, reading and wood-working. Bob will be forever remembered and loved by his wife, Ruby; two children, Gary Goodpaster and wife Kathy, of Austin, TX, Terrye Hayes and husband Don, of Haskell, OK; four grandchildren, Amie Williams and husband Garrett, Audrie Reed and husband Jason, Joshua Goodpaster, Caleb Goodpaster and wife Jamie; and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, John Goodpaster and Bert Goodpaster; one sister, Ella Mae Goodpaster; and one grandson, Donald Ray Hayes, III.
Funeral services will be at 11am, Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at West Side Church of Christ. Internment will take place at Fort Gibson National Cemetery following the service.
