Linda Sue Starkey, 74, of Lyburn was called home on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. She was born November 19, 1943 in Mt. Gay.

She was the daughter of the late Basil and Rosella (Crittenten) Vance. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Lawton Jack Starkey, parents, Basil and Rosella Vance, brother Bobby Jean Vance, son-in-law, Frank Adkins, son, Jackie Day “Tom Thumb” Starkey, nephew, Bob Wellman, and her most beloved canine companion, Itsy. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her and are left behind to cherish her memory. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her son, Carl “Pooch” (Patty) Starkey of Neibert, daughter, Sara Adkins of Wildwood, FL, grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Russell) Thompson of Surfside Beach, SC, Derick (Billie) Branham of Fort Bragg, NC, and Coty Jack Starkey of Wendell, NC. Her great-grandchildren, Aiden and Kalix Thompson, and Bradley, Cannon, and Sadie Branham.

Her sisters, Janice (Burt) Brown of Lampasas, TX, Glora (Ben) Wellman of Adrian, MI, Christine (Joel) Neace of Palmcoast, FL, Deb (Dave) Adkins of Chapmanville, Shawn (Reto) Green of Mullins, Jim (Pam) Vance of Rome, OH, and Tommy Vance of Cleveland, OH. Linda also has many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends that will miss her dearly. In some lifetimes, a person is lucky enough to encounter friendships and relationships that are just as strong as family bonds.

Linda was blessed to have quite of few very special friends and groups that she considered to be more than just friends, but family. She was deeply rooted in her Baptist Faith and was a long time member of Lyburn Freewill Baptist Church and adored all of her fellow brothers and sisters in the congregation. Her closest friends, Helen Daniels and Marie Burgess of Neibert, were not only part of that congregation but also part of her family circle.

They called to check on her during her hard times, sang her favorite church hymns with her, and prayed for her every night. Dale and Jason Simmons of Lady Lake, Fl welcomed her into their home anytime she wanted to visit. They sat with her during many episodes of Andy Griffith and always made her smile with conversation.

Lastly, Rhonda Adkins of Cyclone was thought of as a daughter to Linda and expressed this many times. Rhonda selflessly provided care for her during her time of illness and up until the moment she was called home. Our family cannot extend our gratitude enough to Rhonda for helping Linda to be happy, comfortable, and cared for during her last few months.

She was grateful to call these special people God put in her life part of her family and share her journey with. Honorary pallbearers are Carl “Pooch”Starky, Burt Brown, Ben Wellman, Joel Neace, Reto Green, Dave Adkins, Jim Vance, Tommy Vance, and Dale Simmons. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Lyburn Freewill Baptist church in Lyburn.

Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV. Friends may call on the family on Monday October 15, 2018 at the church starting at 6:00 PM.
