Linda Lee Altergott Schwanebeck, age 80, of Glen Ellyn, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, January 16th, 2019, with her husband at her side, holding her hand. She was born March 3, 1938 in Melrose Park, Illinois to David and Gladys Altergott. Linda met the love of her life in 1st grade and knew it at first sight, Jerome L. Schwanebeck and Linda were married February 22, 1958.
They lived in Melrose Park until 1965 when they built their current home in Glen Ellyn. Linda and Jerome would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this coming February. Her loves and passions in life included her family, gardening, all animals, reading and many crafty projects including Halloween costumes for her four children, hosting many dinners and parties for her family, friends and neighbors.
Her favorite place to spend much of her time, in the last 20 years of her life was at the Lake House in Three Lakes, WI. surrounded by her family and riding around on the lakes with her soulmate, in the “Woody”. Linda was a longtime member, vocalist in the Choir and supporter of St. Luke Lutheran Church, in Glen Ellyn.
Linda was the loving mother of son Jerry Schwanebeck and his wife Cathy VanDeventer Schwanebeck of St. Charles, son David Schwanebeck Sr. and his wife DyAnn Von Kerens Schwanebeck, of Lockport, daughter Lisa Schwanebeck Preece and her husband David Preece, of Twin Lakes WI. , son Steven Schwanebeck and his wife Tina Dow Schwanebeck of Glen Ellyn. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one Great Granddaughter; Eric Schwanebeck and his wife Katherine Koy Schwanebeck, Lyssa Schwanebeck Westhoff and her husband Samuel Westhoff, Rachael Schwanebeck, David Schwanebeck Jr., Daniel Schwanebeck, Derek Schwanebeck, Samantha Preece Josefowski and her husband Tim Josefowski, Elizabeth Preece, Carli Schwanebeck, Cameron Schwanebeck & Great Granddaughter Riley Josefowski.
She was also the sister of the late Judy Altergott Zurich who is survived by her husband, Clarence Zurich. The Wake will be held in the Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd. , Wheaton, IL on Sunday, January 27th with visitation from 2:00-6:00 pm.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 28th at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 23W080 Butterfield Rd. Glen Ellyn, from 10:30 am until time of service 11 am. The family would also like to express heartfelt and profound gratitude to Linda’s dedicated Lexington Hospice Home Health caregivers, Nurse Leigh Walls, Clergy Tim, Nurse Helen, C.N.A. Tanya, Nurse Anna and Social Worker Annise and a very special thank you to her daughter, Lisa Preece and granddaughter Lyssa Westhoff, who provided compassionate care and companionship during her final few months.
