Lois Ann Hadley Petersen May 19, 1944 ~ October 21, 2018 On Sunday, October 21, 2018, Lois passed away in her home surrounded by a room full of family and friends she loved and who deeply loved her. She was born to Harold S. and Katherine Mildred Reimann Hadley on May 19, 1944. The fourth of nine children, she was raised in Emmett, Idaho.

After graduating from Ricks College, Lois lived a brief time in Salt Lake City. She married Jay L. Petersen on February 2, 1968. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

Together they built a home in Farr West where she lived for the rest of her life. It’s ironic a woman with the biggest, most generous heart suffered from atrial fibrillation and ultimately heart failure. Her door was open to everyone.

Whether making plates of fries for Jay’s young men’s group or Christmas morning ebelskivers, everyone was always welcome and always fed. She served as Ward Primary President, Ward Relief Society President and Stake Primary President. Her fondest calling may have been that of pianist at Seasons Assisted Living.

Lois would often say “how did a girl like me end up in a place like this” … but oh the places she saw! She traveled the world but was most happy tole painting in her craft room or gathered around the kitchen counter to talk or eat a meal. She loved to get away to the Causey cabin and from the deck watch a moose wander through the quaking aspen trees.

It was her love for the large mammal that led her family to purchase the lighted metal creature that stood in the front window for 24 years. The moose served as a beacon on a foggy Farr West night. Many a driver would spot the moose and know they were that much closer to their destination.

Just like the moose, Lois was a beacon to so many – providing strength, guidance and a safe harbor. Perhaps Lois’ greatest legacy will be her 30 years of service to the Festival of Trees. A champion of the children, she contributed countless hours and means to give “A Gift of Love”.

Beginning in 1992 Lois served on the Executive Board. Friends and family have fond memories of working in the Sweet Shoppe, selling tickets, tying quilts, delivering trees, decorating wreaths and centerpieces. The joy of creating handmade items (one year alone she made and donated 52 quilts) may have only been matched by her year-long search for treasures in craft and boutique stores.

Until her last breath Lois hoped to attend decorating day and Opening Night. Lois leaves a little piece of herself with us. She taught us so much and was the glue that held our family together.

Her grandchildren will always remember water fights in the back yard, playing Pay the Rent, rides in the golf cart, and painting crafts. She is survived by Kimberlee Hunsaker (Brent), Twin Falls, ID; Penny Jones (Waide), Leesburg, VA; Paul Petersen (Calleen), Federal Way, WA; Julee Attig, Salt Lake City, UT; Eddie Maiava (Jenni), Laie, HI. Lois was the proud grandmother of Tyler, Jamie, Zachary, Katelyn, Hadley, Jake, Daniel, Reagan, Jay, Tad, Julia, Meg, and William.

Also surviving are her five sisters and three brothers: Norene McCombs (RaMon); Steven Hadley (Colleen); Stan Hadley (Janet); Ralph Hadley (Terry); Laura Wilson (Ken); Katheryn Whicker (Dennis); Karelyn Christiansen (Scott); Colleen Ferguson (Gary). She also deeply loved her extended Petersen family. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, as well as her mother and father.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Farr West Poplar Stake Center, 1745 North 2300 West. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. , and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Thank you to her countless caregivers including Team Lois, as well as Annette from Canyon Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider attending this year’s Festival of Trees or making a donation to Primary Children’s Hospital.
