Lois N. Marion June 05, 1923 – March 12, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Lois Natalie Marion, age 95, of Brown City, went to be with the Lord on March 12. She was born in Flynn Township to Bert and Flossie Mahaffy on June 5, 1923. She was one of the first to graduate from Peck High School.
On August 1, 1942, she married the love of her life, Gordon Marion at Omard Methodist Church. They both worked at the Bomber Plant in Willow Run. She loved to dance and Gordon had to take dancing lessons so he could keep up with her.
Lois and Gordon moved to a dairy farm on Cade Road in 1951. Gordon went to work at Ford Motor Company to ‘get them through the first winter’. He retired 30 years later while Lois kept the farm going, raised four boys, was active in Eastern Star and the Brown City Woman’s Club.
She amazed everyone at her ability to milk the cows for evening chores, disappear into the bathroom and emerge dressed to the nines and head to town for social events. Lois had a quick wit, a ready smile, was admired for always looking “So put together”. And, as her sons will attest, did not suffer fools or people being mistreated.
Teachers and Administrators feared her appearance in the halls of Brown City High School. If anything needed to be done, she was there. Whether birthing a calf at three in the morning, or providing a cake for a church bake sale, Lois would simply do it.
She played piano by ear, with a ragtime beat, and an accomplished accordion player – bringing her music to any gathering. After selling the farm, they moved to town and enjoyed sixteen years of retirement together, traveling to all 50 states, spending winters in Fort Myers, and many summers in Caseville. Lois and Gordon were members of the Brown City United Methodist Church and many milestones of their lives were celebrated there.
Their 25th Wedding Anniversary (where Lois wore her wedding dress), the baptisms of their four boys, a couple weddings, and most every Sunday. It served as the bedrock to a busy life. Her faith and her friends were important to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Daughter-in-law Sharon Marion, and her parents, brother Glyone and sister Madalene. She is survived by four sons, Jim (Mary) of Shelby Township, Bob (Martha) of Tacoma, WA, Ric (Julie) of Columbiaville, Mike (Melissa) of Scottsville, KY. 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and honored to be the only Aunt of Maureen, Roger and Jack McClow.
The family would like to especially thank Troy and the staff of Whispering Pines in Lapeer for taking such special care of Mom for the past two years. Visitation at Carman Funeral Home Friday from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Brown City United Methodist Church. Pastor Denny Irish officiating with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Brown City United Methodist Church.
