Lorraine’s Obituary Lorraine May Skonberg, born to Laura(Denny) and Michael McDermott on February 24, 1934 in Newburgh, went home to be with the Lord on February 15, 2019. Lorraine was married to the late Kenneth Skonberg, the love of her life. She was the center of her family whom she adored and will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lorraine was a graduate of the Newburgh Free Academy class of 1952. She enjoyed her “lunch bunch” group from her high school class. In her earlier years she spent many hours roller skating at the Avalon as an accomplished dance skater.

She also was a Majorette and baton twirler with the high school marching band. In the past she volunteered for the AHRC, Girl Scouts and the New Windsor Little League Women’s Auxiliary. Lorraine was a member of Trinity United Methodist Parish where she had volunteered in the past as the Financial Secretary, was a member of UMW group, and enjoyed participating in bible studies.

She had an active social life with many friends and enjoyed attending area senior groups. A family statement reads, “Lorraine was the matriarch of the family. She lived for her family whom she dearly loved.

She was a doting Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She will be remembered for her Easter egg hunts, cheering at sporting events and her traditional Lemon Meringue Pie for the holidays. She loved family vacations and camping trips.

She also had a great sense of fairness for all and was a lover of animals and their wellbeing. Lorraine leaves behind her son Drew Skonberg & Sue Falbe, Daughter Lorie Coombs and Son In Law John, Son Michael Skonberg and Daughter In Law Barbara. Brother Ron McDermott and Sister In Law Lari-Sue McDermott, Niece Kari Leigh Vega,(Johnathan) and Nephew Kyle McDermott (Annie), Grandchildren; Corey Skonberg (Victoria), Michelle Coombs, (Nathan), Ryan Coombs (Maggie), Justin Coombs(BreeAnn) Tara Skonberg (Dev), Shawn Skonberg (Kahla).

Great Grandchildren; Schuyler, Shayla, Maizie, Margot, Dashiell, Livia, Harper, Tyler. Nephews Steven and Kurt Skonberg. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, February 19 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave.

, Newburgh. A service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Parish, 1 Owens Rd.
