Obituary for Louis Forsythe Louis Theodore “Hug-Go” Forsythe, age 65, after a brave and hard fought struggle with cancer, while at his home in Hastings, MI, on October 9, 2018, went to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a native Michigander, born April 26th, 1953 in Battle Creek, where he lived for nearly three decades, graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1972 before moving to Arizona. During his late teen years he serendipitously began volunteering with Youth for Christ.

Shortly after beginning this ministry to troubled youth, Louis himself came into a relationship with Jesus and his life was forever changed. One aspect of that change was the birth of Hug-Go, a stage name Louis used when he clothed himself in clown garb and silently but purposely helped bring joy, laughter and learning to his audiences. Whether he was in Arizona – where he lived for about 20 years – or Michigan – where he moved back to in 2001, Louis’s focus in life was on ministering to others.

This is best portrayed by his “Life Coaching” business card slogan, “To help others gain new awareness into who God made them to be”. Sometimes he ministered while backpacking, other times when Hug-Go was creating balloon art. How about giving hugs?

– He was famous for these. And even giving blood – call it 26 gallons before chemo stopped it. God apparently took notice of his kindness, because on July 30th, 2011, he was granted his heart’s desire of a life companion in his wife, Jane (DeHass) Forsythe, who survives him.

He is also survived by his brothers Leonard “Bud” (Bobbi) Forsythe and Lawrence “Larry” Forsythe, Mother’s in Law, Margaret Kish and Cathy DeHass, nephews Jason Forsythe, Jeremy Forsythe, Joseph (Alicia) DeHass and niece Shannon (Calvin) Newlands as well as 5 Great Nephews and 3 Great Nieces. Louis was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Forsythe Jr., mother Genevieve (Horyza) Irving, sister Gwen Forsythe and brother-in-law Kenneth (Cathy) DeHass.
