Obituary for Lucian Addario Lucian Addario born April 29, 1945 in New Haven, Connecticut died unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep while visiting his niece and her children at the family home in Hamden on Tuesday afternoon, December 11, 2018. Lucian was accomplished in many fields. As a young adult he studied acting in New York City and appeared in several movies, the most notable being Midnight Cowboy.
Later he returned to Connecticut and opened a highly regarded greenhouse and floral business from which he retired 2 years ago after more than 46 years of operation. His interests were always centered around fine art and design. His esthetic sense was highly regarded and informed all his work in plant and flower design or in the folk art he sometimes produced.
Later in life he wrote several plays and children’s books. Throughout his life he maintained a passionate connection to his church and lived by the precepts of his deeply felt Roman Catholic faith. He practiced his Christian beliefs every day in his many charitable works including the Saint Thomas More soup kitchen, New Haven Reads, Elm Shakespeare Company, Music Haven, Saint Ann’s Soup Kitchen, and numerous acts of financial support for his extended family, friends, and those in need.
He was also a founding member of the New Canaan Society of New Haven and a longtime member of the PBA, and The Small Businessman of the Year, awarded by the New Haven Chamber of Commerce. He was a vibrant positive face and voice known and welcomed in every corner of Connecticut. He was particularly interested in the welfare of children.
He leaves a large void in our greater community and a deep sadness among his family as his like is not often seen and we have been fortunate to have loved and lived with him. Lucian is survived by his 101 year old mother Mary (Maturo) Addario, sister Maryann (Addario) Leach, niece Andrea (Kelly), nephew Roger, and the many dear relatives in the Addario, Maturo, and Pasqualoni families. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Saint Mary’s Church on Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven, at 10 am, Monday, December 17 with a brief reception to follow in the undercroft of the church.
