Evelyn Hughes went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at age 89. She is survived by three children, Jan (Bill) Spears, Danny (Betsy) Hughes, and Laura (James) Salter; five grandchildren, Eric (Brandy) Spears, Carla (Jeremy) Sanders, Mikayla (Matthew) Price, Mackenzie Salter and Megan Salter; four great grandchildren, Kenny Chappell, Samantha Chappell, Isabella Spears, and Zoey Grady; one great great granddaughter, Abigail Chappell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Versa Aulton Hughes; one daughter, June Evelyn Hughes; one grandson and his wife Patrick & Sarah Grady; and her parents.

She was a member of Enon Baptist Church in Morris since 1956. She was a member of Morris Beautification Board for years. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at The New Gardendale Funeral Home with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Morris Cemetery.
