Obituary for Lynn McRae Hurdle Lynn McRae Hurdle, 70, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2018, after an extended illness. Lynn was born on January 10, 1948, in Eufaula, Alabama, to the late William A. Johnston and May Skelhorn Johnston. She was a member of the Eufaula High School graduating class of 1965.
She attended Troy University, graduating in 1969 with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a proud member of and featured twirler with Troy State’s Sound of the South Marching Band. She was a member of the Senoia United Methodist Church.
Lynn taught school in Opp, Alabama, and Newnan, Georgia, before following other pursuits. She also taught baton and dance in Opp and Newnan to an entire generation of young women and had a profound impact on their lives and families. Last January, several of Lynn’s former students were so appreciative of her time with them that they held a birthday party in her honor.
Lynn also had a successful real estate career. She had an eye for style and color, and her decorating talent and expertise was sought by individual clients and homebuilders. Lynn also flew for eight years as a flight attendant for ValuJet and then AirTran.
Her love of gardening was well known and the Senoia home she shared with her husband Jack, was a showplace. Her favorite role was being a loving “Gigi” to her four grandchildren. Her charitable endeavors centered on animal rescue and welfare.
The Memorial Service is on Monday, November 19, 2018, at 11 o’clock in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Georgia, 30263 with Reverend Ashley Jenkins officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 am. Rather than flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Senoia United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 98, Senoia, Georgia 30276 or to the Fayette County Humane Society, P.O. Box 244, Fayetteville, Georgia 30276 or to a humane society or church of choice.
