Marilyn Garvey Trotta of New Haven died peacefully on October 6, 2018 at the Guilford House with her family by her side. She was born in New Haven on July 25, 1934 to the late Dennis and Marie McGowan Garvey. Marilyn enjoyed the people and personalities around her.

A graduate of St Joseph’s College in West Hartford, she was a Parochial educator from 1977, and most recently taught 8th grade at her beloved St. Bernadette School in Morris Cove. The 8th grade classroom is named for her in recognition of her years of devoted instruction. She served on many boards and commissions and held positions including Vice Chair for the St. Bernadette Parish Council, Secretary for both the School Board and Home School Associations and held a position on the New Haven Pastoral Society.

The highlight of her summer was the St. Bernadette Carnival. It was here she could visit with all her current and former students. Marilyn always put others ahead of herself and always saw the good in people.

No matter the burden or obstacle she always maintained a positive outlook and met any challenge firm in her Faith. Her greatest happiness was watching her grandchildren grow. Whether it be a recital, Football game, Lacrosse match, or graduation, hers was the loudest voice in the stands.

Marilyn is the loving mother of Frederick Joseph Trotta and his wife Cynthia and the late Joseph and Dennis Trotta. Sister of the late Virginia, Dennis and Robert Garvey. Proud grandmother of Lauren Blaine, Kristine Louise and Frederick Joseph Trotta, Jr. and Lindsay Weaver.

Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 4-8pm in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Pl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Bernadette Church Friday morning at 10:30. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
