Philomena Mary Abatello went home to the love of her life November 15, 2018, on the day of her 70th wedding anniversary in Talmadge Park Healthcare Center after a long illness surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew Abatello. Philomena was born in North Haven on August 18, 1927 to the late Michael and Rose Valentino Christoforo.

Philomena is survived by her daughters, Rosemary (Paul) Considine, Terry (John) Marchitto, Barbara Consiglio, grandchildren; Melissa (Alan) Beck, Erin (Sean) Klotz, Erica Considine, Christopher and Johnny (Christina) Marchitto, Danielle (Kevin) Reiss, and Andrew Consiglio, great grandchildren; Brianna, Isabella, and Madelyn Marchitto, Claire Beck, Ethan and Riley Klotz, and Mia and Ashton Gallucci. Also, her sisters and brothers, Josephine & Nancy Cuseo, Charles & Tony (Mary) Christoforo and the late Lucy Buonpane, Rose Migliaro, Mary Simiola, Frank, John, Matteo, Michael, Pasquale and Salvatore Christoforo. Philomena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Nonni) to her family and was known for her famous Italian food and legendary baking.

She also loved gardening, crocheting and watching UCONN women’s basketball. Philomena was employed as a companion to Janet Camp Troxell, Walter Camp’s daughter, and to Isabelle Wilder, Thornton Wilder’s sister for approximately 40 years. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Philomena’s family would like to thank her care givers from Vitas Hospice and Talmadge Park. Visiting hours will be held Monday morning from 8:30- 10:15 in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish (St. Frances Cabrini Church) 57 Pond Hill Rd.

in North Haven. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice 199 Park Rd.
