Anne J. Barker, of New Haven passed away December 22, 2018 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of 65 years of the late Herbert Austin Barker. Born in Boston, MA June 10, 1924, daughter of the late Peter and Barbara Joyce Butler, Anne was a brilliant mathematician, having studied at Ohio State University and St. John’s University.

She ran varied businesses during her lifetime, but more than anything, she was a wonderful homemaker, always putting her husband, children, and family first. She is the mother of Stephen Barker and his wife Gail, Michael Barker and his wife Joan, John (Sean) Barker and his wife Kristine, and Christine Barker and her husband Claude Carlier. Sister of the late Eileen Giglio, Geraldine Tabala, and Thomas Butler.

Loving grandmother of Sabrina Carlier, Dawn Anne Murphy, Cara Yellot, Michael, Sarah, Meaghan, and Katie Barker, and the late John Herbert Barker. Great grandmother of Christopher West, Isabella, Violet, and Fox Judge Barker and Sister-in-law of Grace Butler. Also survived by her caretaker and pseudo-daughter Yvonne Stevenson.

Anne treasured family time and found great joy in the holidays. She would not want to interfere with the peace and joy of her friends and family at this time of year. To accommodate those wishes, the family will schedule a memorial service in June 2019 for a celebration of her life.

For those who are local and wish to attend, there will be visiting hours this Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Church 5 Hillhouse Ave. , New Haven at 1pm.

Entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charities of her heart: Covenant House of NYC 460 West 41st St. New York, NY 10036 or the Bowery Mission 227 Bowery New York, NY 10002.
