Martha’s Obituary Martha V. Bingham was born in Panama City, Florida, into a family that settled Bay County in the 1800s. She resided there until the last 6 years, when she moved to Tallahassee and Westminster Oaks Retirement Center. After a short bout with pneumonia Martha went quietly home to be with Jesus.

Martha was the youngest of four children born to Ella Holley and Lelon E. Vickery. She graduated from Brenau Women’s College with a degree in English and Psychology. After graduation she became engaged to Thomas Y. Bingham, originally of Pensacola.

They were married on December 21, 1941 during World War II in Quincy, Florida. While Tom and her brother-in-law were serving in the South Pacific, Martha and her Sister, Mae Vickery Middleton, operated the Quincy Coca-Cola bottling plant during the absence of their husbands. Following the war, Martha and Tom settled in Panama City where they were members of First Presbyterian Church and happily married for 67 years.

Everything Martha did was “with all of her heart”. She married Tom and supported him in his civic-minded and entrepreneurial interests by being active in the local women’s organizations. She served as President of the Junior League, Junior Woman’s Club, and Yacht Club Auxiliary.

She was an active Red Cross volunteer for many years. Martha also served as Secretary in the family corporation which bottled Coca-Cola. Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Tom and granddaughter, Rachel Holley Stewart.

She is survived by their two daughters, Holly Bingham Suber (Stephen) of Tallahassee and Sue Bingham Herring (Jody) of Arcadia, FL, and by grandchildren Thomas Yonge (Ty) Suber (Kim), Martha Diane Stewart, Miriam Suber (Mimi) Rowell (Andrew), Ella Vickery Suber Callaway (Wesley) and Sarah Christine Armour Stewart. She gave herself fully to raising her family and was the quintessential homeroom mother, Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader. She opened their home to friends and family, and everyone loved to be there, whether in town during the school year or at White Western Lake in the summers.

It has been said that her life reflected her devotion to her Lord, her husband, her marriage, her daughters and her grandchildren. She loved well and was well-loved in return. In her later years in Tallahassee, at the Westminster Oaks Health Center, she was fondly known and loved for her quick and dependable sweet smile, even upon being awakened from a short nap while working her crossword puzzles.

Funeral services for Martha Bingham will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel on Airport Road, with her grandson-in-law, the Very Reverend Andrew M. Rowell, officiating. Visitation is at 1:00 CST in the parlor with her service at 2:00 CST. Interment will follow immediately at Greenwood Cemetery on Lisenby Ave.

Pall Bearers are her nephew Jay Vickery, grandsons TY Suber and Shaun Herring, grandson-in-law Wesley Callaway, and great-grandsons Audun Cowart and Caleb Armour. Honorary Pall Bearers are her nephews Robert Vickery, Charles Vickery, Frasier Bingham, and lifelong friends Walter Shorty Dennis, Spencer Cullen and Joseph Smitty Stuckey. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Panama City, Hurricane Michael Rebuilding Fund, P.O. Box 1878, Panama City, FL 32402.
