Obituary for Mrs. Mary E. (Slaughter) Noble UTICA – Mrs. Mary E. (Slaughter) Noble, age 85, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare. Born in Alexandria, Alabama on November 22, 1932, Mary was the daughter of the late Cleg and Essie (Maxwell) Slaughter. In 1965 she married Edward Noble, Sr. with whom she celebrated a union of 52 years; their hearts belonged to one another.
Mary worked in the Housekeeping Department at Glen Cove Hospital in Long Island, NY. In 1989 she and her husband relocated to the Utica area to be closer to family. For many years, she was blessed to care for the homes of many special families.
She had longevity of employment with these folks because she was trustworthy, hard-working, and conscientious. She loved to clean and make things tidy. Cleanliness within her home and her well-appointed appearance were important to her.
She was proud of how she tended to the interior and the exterior of her home. She could grow beautiful flowers. She could take a clipping, root it, and grow a plant to maturity.
Mary had a calm demeanor but she also had rules and guidelines when raising her children. Although much of her time was allotted to her work ethic, she found time enough for her family because they came first. Mary lived her life by going the extra mile.
And when she became a grandmother, she loved her grandchildren as her own, especially when they were babies. She claimed she didn’t enjoy cooking, but her family agreed that she pleased their palates with the savory food she prepared for them. For Mary, the Bible was the word of God’s wisdom and encouragement, and it gave true meaning to her faith.
Whenever she read scripture or verse, it brought her peace, hope, and comfort during difficult days. She stood strong in her beliefs and trusted in her Lord. She was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by her husband, Edward; and her son, Edward Noble II. She was preceded by her daughter, Mary Linda Adams-Williams in 2001. She also leaves her grandchildren, Howard and Rhonda Dawson, Michael Jeter and fiancée Jennifer Dzwonkowski, Tamika Jeter and husband Victor, David Adams and fiancée Zaquita Thompson; and Nathan, and Ann Perkins; her great-grandchildren, Hakeem, Antwaun, and Khadijah Dawson; Alexis, and Michael Jeter, Qadir Cole, and Quinn Cole Jr., Udaya, and Idaya Ngumah, Dahron, and Davion Adams; great-great-grandchildren, Jordan Dawson, Kayden Terzi, and Braea Cole; her beloved sister Ruby Carter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Mary Slaughter, Joseph Slaughter, Frank and Susan Slaughter, and Ralph Slaughter and fiancée; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and her sister-friends, Shirley James and the late Mae Woodson.
She was predeceased by her brother, Henry; sisters, Essie “Betty”, Elise, and Ann Marie; in-laws, Frank Noble, and Mattie Pearl Noble, among others of her husband’s family; and her nephews, William D. Slaughter, Terry W. Slaughter, and Martin D. Slaughter. The family is grateful to Mary’s cardiologists at Central NY Cardiology, Dr. Thor Markwood, Dr. David Gavney, Dr. Gerry Love; and her primary physician, Dr. Paula Vecchio; the MVHS at Faxton Hospital ICU; and the Albany Medical Center ICU; all were professional and compassionate in caring for Mary. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12-1 at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 219 Leah St; followed by Mary’s Home Going Celebration at 1:00 at the church, officiated by Pastor Marilyn M. Bell.
