Our devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend passed away at age 84, the evening of 24 May 2019, after a short period of decline due to conditions related to age. Mary Lou was born 31 July 1934 in Vernal, Utah, to Louis Dermont Roberts and Winifred Louise Dean. She was sealed to Max Allen Blackham 10 December 1953 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Her life as a gifted pianist, her sweet and welcoming character, and her ability to work with others was marked by extensive service to her church and family. When she was three years-old she was placed in nursery school (similar to a modern day-care program). She stayed there for three or four hours during the day.

Mary Lou remembered that she hated nursery school because she had to take care of other children who cried all the time that were at the school. As a result of the experience Mary Lou had there, she committed that if she were able, she would never subject her children to day-care; which she kept. Fifty-eight years of life in Pleasant Grove, Utah gave her ten children the opportunity to be raised in a home of faith and security.

The children all attest to their mother’s devotion, constancy, and presence as a matriarchal comfort. She taught all of her children to sing. The girls were taught to sew and play piano.

Favorite things: the color pink, journal keeping, new grandchildren, Christmas Holidays, purple lilacs and pink lilies, Rogers and Hammerstein, George Gershwin, and Claude Debussey. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters: Florence, Rhea, and Joyce; and five brothers: Homer, Clark, Dean, David, and Wilford. She is survived by her husband, Max; her brother, Lowell; her sisters: Edna and Ruth; and her children: Wayne, Dianne, Christy, Leslie, Lisa, Sharleen, Jason, Carolyn, Linda, and Colette.

She leaves behind a progeny of 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Funeral services held Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the North Field Chapel, 2195 North 100 East, Pleasant Grove where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00-10:45 prior to services. Internment in the Moroni City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove, Utah.

A special thanks from the family is extended to the office, aids and nurses of the Stonehenge rehabilitation facility of Springville, and Canyon Home Care & Hospice.
