Mary Virginia Cairns, 93, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away peacefully on December 24th, 2018 in Murrells Inlet, SC. Mary was born on February 7th, 1925 to Frederick Z. and Irene (Tarr) Moyer in Sharon, PA. She was a graduate of Sharon High School class of 1943.

Mary worked for the Sharon School District as an administrative assistant, 40 years, until her retirement. On June 26th, 1948 she married her husband, the late Robert Cairns, who passed away November 27th, 1984. She was a member of Sharpsville First Presbyterian Church since April of 1948 where she was very active in the women’s group.

Mary was also a member of Eastern Star, the Mercer County Association of School Retirees, and volunteered at the Keystone Blind Association for over 20 years. Mary enjoyed reading, stitching, playing golf, crossword puzzles, and playing cards especially bridge. Mary is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Alex) Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC, Judy Birch of Butler, PA, son, Robert M. (Susan) Cairns of Chester Gap, VA, 8 grandchildren, Amy Morris, Kristy Kensicki, Scott Schuster, Jennifer Bowlin, Carrie Edwards, Michael Cairns, Mindy Johnston, and Robert R. Cairns, 18 great grandchildren, and brother, Fred (Betty) Moyer.

Friends may call Friday December 28th, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA 16148. Funeral services will be held Friday December 28th, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the SHERMAN Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Carlin, officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Sharpsville 603 W. Ridge Ave. Sharpsville, PA 16150 or Surfside Beach Library 410 Surfside Dr. Surfside Beach, SC 29575 in memory of Mary. Burial will take place in Americas Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
