Maxine Murphy Humphreys August 01, 1931 – January 25, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook Marie “Maxine” Murphy Humphreys, 87 passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 after her gradual decline of health. She had been surrounded and supported by her loving children and caregivers in her last years of life. She was born August 1, 1931 in Bethera, South Carolina.

She was the eldest of nine children to Douglas and Marie Murphy. Maxine worked as a nurse at the Naval Yard in Charlestown, before meeting and marrying the love of her life, David William Humphrey. She managed a ladies support group for several flight wings over the course of his career, for more than 20 years.

She was a competitive Bridge player. Maxine also donated her time to deliver Meals On Wheels, in order to help others. She was the Matriarch of the family and preceded in death by her husband, David; a son, Jonathan Humphreys; four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by three children, David William Humphreys II (Lisa Anderson); Caroline Whitehead (Victor); Kevin Humphreys (Julie Clark); three grandchildren, Christopher Fowler (Holli), Rebecca Fowler (T.J. Mann), David Humphreys III, five great grandchildren, Cade Fowler, Lindsey Anderson, Gage Fowler, Kinsley Carr, Kyley Carr; brother, Kenneth Murphy, sister, Janie Stabler and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Bates officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that those desiring may make memorial donations to Emerald Coast Hospice in memory of Maxine Humphreys.
