Robert “Bobby” Marion Higdon Sr. December 27, 1929 – February 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook Robert (Bobby) Marion Higdon, Sr. On Sunday, the world lost a true southern gentleman and a man whose actions proved him time and time again to be a man of integrity and one with a true love for his Lord and Savior. Robert (Bobby) Marion Higdon, Sr. passed away February 24th at the age of 89. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Suzanne Higdon Farrar, his beloved grandchildren Matthew Dane Farrar (Anna) and Kendall Elizabeth Patrick (Brent), and the “apples of his eye”, great grandchildren Hannah Kathryn Patrick and Cole Gabriel Patrick.

Bobby was born in Panama City, Florida on December 27, 1929. He answered the call to serve his country, spending one year in the United States Navy, before returning to Panama City to become a graduate of the Bay High School Class of 1950. He loved attending their class reunions and reuniting with a very dear friend, Lolete Falck Barlow.

Spending most of his professional career in the automobile business, Bobby prided himself on his customer service, on ensuring the deals he made were fair and on building lifelong friendships and relationships with those he served. He was a member of the team at several area dealerships, but his heart truly belonged to the family at Kendrick-Rowell Oldsmobile Buick. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City, Bobby served as a deacon for many years before being honored as a Deacon Emeritus.

In his spare time, Bobby enjoyed working in his garden and he loved tinkering with things … he adored a good challenge and believed he could fix anything! In the process, he was a constant role model for those around him because he tackled every challenge with a smile and completed every task to the best of his ability. He loved to laugh and he loved people but above all, Bobby loved his Lord and his family and he never missed an opportunity to celebrate.

Weddings were always a favorite of his and Bobby was honored to be able to walk his granddaughter down the aisle and to dance at the wedding of his grandson. The relatively recent births of both of his great grandchildren filled him with immense joy and family members rejoice that he had the opportunity to celebrate their births and early milestones. Bobby was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Morris Higdon in 2009 and his son, Robert Marion Higdon Jr. in 2018.

He was also preceded by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Matthew Farrar, Brent Patrick, Robert Wright, Honorable Joe Grammer, Ron Efird, Roth Rowell, Raymond Tucker and Smitty Stuckey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church.
