On October 24, 2018 Maxine L. Gray went home to be with her Lord. She was 103 of age. Maxine was born April 18, 1915 in El Paso Texas.

At age 4 her family was transferred to Phoenix, Arizona where she grew up. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1933 and graduated from Phoenix Junior College in 1935. She met Bill Gray in college and in 1937 they were married.

In 1941 they moved to San Diego, California where they helped build airplanes during World War II. In 1945 they moved to Northern California visiting family and friends. Through mutual friends, Bill began his career in agriculture chemicals, ending up working 18 years for the John Pryor Company in Salinas.

He retired in 1978. In 1966, Maxine and Bill joined FPC. Maxine was personally invited to be in a 2 year group-study called the “Bethel Series”.

After a 1 year study of the O.T., Pastor Arnold Nelson and Dorothy led a tour-group to Israel. This trip had a profound effect on Maxine and a desire to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. After Bill retired, he and Maxine joined Pastor Nelson on a 2ND trip to Israel and Egypt.

In the year 2000 Bill suffered a heart attack. In March of 2000 he went home to be with the Lord. After Bill passed on, Maxine asked the Lord to help her make a new life for herself.

In her remaining years, she used God’s gifts to demonstrate the abundant life Jesus offers to His followers. During the 40 some-odd-years at F.P.C., Maxine served on the Evangelism Communion, on the Worship Communion, 3 years on the Board of Elders with Pastor Nelson, and 3 years on the Board with Pastor Ladra. Maxine and Bill served on the Board of Young Life in Salinas from 1983-1995.

God provided many opportunities for her to share God’s transforming power and love with those whose lives she touched. On Sunday mornings she served as an usher and a greeter. She demonstrated her love with great hugs to all who came to worship at F.P.C.

She and Bill are now together again. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Compass Church, 830 Padre Drive, Salinas, CA.
