Mervin Joseph Venuti, 97, of Salinas passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018. Joe was born Oct.

24, 1921 in Salinas, CA to Louis and Alvina Venuti. Joe, a lifelong resident of Salinas, joined the Navy and served in WWII from Jan. 10, 1942 to Dec.

1, 1945. He retired from the Naval Reserves on Oct. 24, 1981 as a CECS, USNR.

After returning from WWII, Joe worked for PG&E prior to his 35-year career with Pacific Bell Telephone Company. Joe was an active member of VFW Post 6849. Joe married the love of his life, Loy Beth Long, in 1948 and they were together for 68 years.

Joe enjoyed hunting with his brother, fishing and camping with his family, along with being actively involved with his 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren’s sports and musical endeavors. His passions were bowling, playing cribbage, golfing and doing crafts. Joe was a “jack of all trades”.

Joe was proceeded in death by his wife Loy Venuti, his son Joseph Anthony (Tony) Venuti, his parents Louis and Alvina Venuti, and his brother Louis Venuti. Joe is survived by sisters Rosie Snyder, Carmen Lore, and Gloria Lopez; daughters Pam (Randy) Smith and Karen (Ed) Sims; grandchildren Alicia (Eddie) Estrada, Ryan (Kim) Sims, Heather Graziano, Michelle (Bobby) Erb, and Joey Pendergrass; great-grandchildren Justin Sims, Devin Sims, Madison Estrada, Rylee Sims, Mackynzee Erb; and numerous nieces and nephews. At Joe’s request, no services will be held.

Cremation has taken place. Donations can be made to the nearest Military Cemetery or to your favorite charity.
