Carol Ann Shade, 78, of Corral de Tierra, CA and former long time resident of Salinas. Passed away on Thursday morning, November 1, 2018 at her home of natural causes. Carol was born on November 12, 1939 in San Bernardino, CA.

She moved to Alisal in the early 1940’s and she graduated from Salinas High School in 1957. She worked for a short time at the Salinas Californian Newspaper. Carol married in 1959, she and her husband Jim have lived in Alisal, North Salinas, Spreckels, Salinas and from 1984 to Jim’s passing in 2007 in San Martin CA.

They lived in Maui for four years while retaining the San Martin residence. After Jim’s passing, Carol moved to Corral de Tierra to be near her children and grandchildren and has lived there ever since. In the early 1960’s Carol was a stay at home Mom to her sons Corey and Randy.

In 1964, Jim and Carol opened the 4 Seasons artificial flower shop. Carol worked on the plastic flower arrangements and did the bookkeeping. In 1966, Jim and Carol started A-1 Rents.

They owned locations in Salinas, Monterey and two in San Jose from 1966 to 1997. She was instrumental on the bookkeeping side of the business. Jim always credited her as a big reason for their success.

In October of 1997 they sold the business to United Rentals and retired. Carol attended of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Morgan Hill, CA. , and after moving to Corral de Tierra the Cypress Community Church.

She was a member of the American Rental Association, the California Rental Association. , And the Red Hat Society. She loved attending the grandchildren’s sporting events.

“Grandy” was Zak, Kellen and Connor’s biggest fan both in sports and scholastically. She lovingly spoiled her miniature schnauzer Sparky, who misses her greatly. She loved to travel with her friends and has been all over the world.

She is survived by her, Sons, Corey Peter (Karen Ann) Shade and Randall Lee (Shannon Marie) Shade both of Salinas, CA. grandchildren, Zachary James Shade, Kellen Ann Shade, Connor James Peter Shade, of Salinas, CA. sister, Nancy (Garlin)Ivy of Kalispell, MT.

, and her nieces Lisa(Bruce) Rianda and Lee Anna (Steve) Matelli, numerous grand nieces and nephews. And Sparky. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at the Cypress Community Church, 681 Monterey Salinas Hwy Salinas, CA 93908.
