Cecil Roy Staley, 93, of Salinas, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2018 He was born April 9, 1925 in Kimberly, Idaho and joined the United States Army on August 23, 1943. He met his future bride, Monica Matthews, during World War II while in England. They were married on December 19, 1946, in Swenden, England.

They returned to the United States in 1947 and welcomed their first child in September the same year. As a military serviceman in the United States Army, he was fortunate to live in many countries and U.S. states with his family. Cecil was a career military man, serving in World War II, Vietnam, and serving stateside during the Korean war During World War II, Cecil was shot in the upper leg, an injury which nearly resulted in amputation (as recommended by his doctors.

) However, through arduous treatment and therapy, he was able to fully recover. Through his wartime service, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, and several other awards and ribbons. After many years of relocation with the military, Cecil and Monica settled in Salinas, California in 1967, and would remain there for the rest of their lives.

Cecil and Monica were blessed with eight children and enjoyed their children, their home, and serving their community through their church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Monica and his son, Brent. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Piche of Lawton, OK; daughter, Sandra (Michael) Revelle of Portland, OR; daughter Marcia (Greg) Crossgrove of Queen Creek, AZ; daughter, Teresa (Clay) Dalrymple of Gold Beach, OR; son, Bradley (Julia) Staley of Chubbuck, ID; daughter, Tonya (Robert) Brown of Oregon House, CA; son, Todd Staley of Prunedale; 29 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 8:30 AM on November 30, 2018 followed by funeral services at 9:00 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 255 E. Alvin Dr., Salinas, CA. Interment will be at 2:00 PM on November 30, 2018 at the San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella, CA. Please arrive 30 minutes early.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate to their favorite charity or to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Perpetual Education Fund.
