She was born in Lynchburg, January 20, 1979. Melissa is survived by her husband, Christopher Michael “Chris” Ellis; three daughters: Sydney Madison Ellis, Jacie Raine Ellis and Addisyn… Read More » Kaylee Ellis; parents: Guy Samuel “Buckshot” McCormick, Jr. (Jessica) and Phyllis Burks McCormick (Rodney); sisters: Stephanie McCormick Hansen (Patrick Hansen) and Kirsten Lee McCormick; grandmother, Frances McCormick, all of Gladstone; mother-in-law, Linda Kay Mays (Carroll E. “Tootsie” Mays) of Appomattox; sister-in-law Kimberly Mays Wolford (William “Porky” Wolford); Nieces and nephews: Hunter “Drake” Hansen, Mason Gage “May-May” Hansen, Bayleigh Wolford, Taylor Wolford and Hailey Lawhorne (Ray) and their children, Ryder and Brantley; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Margaret Dinah Burks and Charles Russell Burks and her paternal grandfather, Guy McCormick, Sr. Melissa was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and was very active in supporting her girls in Amherst Dixie Youth Softball. Most of all she loved her family.

They all knew her selfless love and deep friendship. Friends are welcomed to visit at Driskill Funeral Chapel from 12 noon until 9:00 pm, Saturday, October 6, 2018. The family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Saturday at the funeral home.

A Funeral service for family and closest friends will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery. Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst.
