Obituary for Michael Gene Thurston Michael Gene Thurston, 65 of Shelbyville, passed away at home in Rushville on September 17, 2018. He was born on November 18, 1952 in Shelbyville, IN to the late Maurice G. Thurston and Nanny Pauline (Hawley) Thurston. Michael was a 1972 graduate of Shelbyville High School.

He married Jacqui (Paugh) Thurston on November 22, 2006 and she survives. Michael is a member of the Rushville Church of Christ. Michael worked at OSL Manufacturing for over ten years and also worked at The Great States in Shelbyville for 33 years.

Michael loved coaching girls softball for over 13 years and working for the Parks Department in Shelbyville. He was known for his woodworking and enjoyed playing on the bowling league. Michael is also survived by his son, John Schlechtweg; daughters, Mary Ellen Thurston of Shelbyville, Tracy Marie (Troy) Sampley of Knightstown, and Casey Schlechtweg of Rushville; brother, Bob (Vicki) Thurston of Brownsville; sister, Rachel (Lonnie) Parrish of AK.

He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Sebastian Lockridge, Gavin Lockridge, Michael DeBoard, Hailey Wallace, Leeland Weaver, and Charlotte “Charlie” Schlechtweg. Michael is preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Dawn Merritt. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 4-8PM at Moster Mortuary.
