Michael Stephen Loftis, 48, of Scott Depot, passed away February 17, 2019 at CAMC Teays Valley. He was born September 14, 1970, in Anderson, IN, to Forrest Loftis and Cheryl Rackley. Michael entered active duty in the US Navy in December 1990 as a Hull Technician, and retired in 2010 as a Chief Petty Officer.

During his 21 years of service, he served aboard ships, earning his Enlisted Service Warfare Specialist designation. He ended his career working with the US Navy SEAL team 1, and was highly decorated with numerous commendations and achievement medals. He was also a member of the James Marshall American Legion Post 187.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia Loftis of Scott Depot; children, Corey Loftis of Pensacola, FL and Lillianne Loftis of Jacksonville FL; mother, Cheryl (Tom) Rackley of Jacksonville, FL; dad, Forrest Loftis of Blue Ridge, GA; sister, Laura DeVincentis (Lou) of Jacksonville, FL; brother in law, Robert DeRiggi (Vickie) of Kingwood; sister in law, Debra Sams (Robert) of Lewisburg; nieces and nephews, Kelsey Gazaway, Anna Gazaway, Chandler Gazaway all of Jacksonville FL, Matthew Sams of Lewisburg, Sofia DeRiggi and Celeste DeRiggi both of Kingwood, Sarah Blair of Dunbar, and other nieces and nephews; also numerous extended family and friends. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, February 23rd at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with CH (MAJ) David W. Johns officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to the Serenity Club at 1225 Ohio Ave. , Dunbar, WV 25064. Chapman Funeral Home, family owned and located at 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, is honored to serve the Loftis family.
