Millie Voge October 01, 1912 – February 21, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Millie Hanson Voge, 106, of Wahpeton, ND formerly of Milnor, ND, passed away February 21, 2019 at St. Catherines Living Center in Wahpeton. Millie was born to Sigvert and Susie (Thomas) Hanson on October 1, 1912 at Cogswell, ND and was raised in the Lutheran faith. Millie attended rural school at Cogswell, until she moved with her family to Brampton and went to school there.
She finished her schooling in Shuman Township when the family moved to Milnor. Millie was united in marriage to Hans Voge on August 25, 1934 at Aberdeen, SD. They made their home in Milnor, where together they raised three children, Joyce (Hanson) Heley, Kenneth Hanson & David Hanson.
Hans passed away on October 23, 2002. In July 2006, Millie became a resident of St. Catherines Living Center in Wahpeton, where she received wonderful care and compassion from the staff there. Millie worked for area farmers during the busy days of her life.
She also worked for Adolph Nelson in the Café at Milnor washing dishes for 10 cents an hour and as a waitress for 15 cents an hour. After Adolph retired, she worked for Joe Thomas in the café. Millie later worked for Dietzler’s Super Valu and the Carl Hendrickson Red Owl Store before Roger Dahlstrom started up his clothing & furniture store, where she worked for 17 years until she retired.
Millie did lots of cooking, baking & canning, and was especially known for her delicious pies, donuts and Norwegian treats. She was a member of Milnor Lutheran Church, where she was active with WELCA and a circle captain. Millie was also a lifetime member of the Smith-Thune American Legion Auxiliary, holding several offices over the years and was honored in 2006 for 61 years of membership.
She was membership chairman for Senior Citizens for many years and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Preceding Millie in death are her parents, her beloved husband of 68 years, Hans, one daughter and two sons she raised, Joyce, Kenny & David, seven sisters, Lyda Gullickson, Arla Thol, Margaret Danielson Osier, Susie Sebens, Hilda Odegard, Doris Odegard and Maxine Tesch, three brothers, Edward, Howard &Willis and an infant brother who died at birth. Left to mourn are her “step” grandson, Darwin (Elaine) Heley, Lidgerwood; “step” granddaughter, Brenda (Kevin) Fisher, Fargo; six “step” great-grandchildren, Bradley Fisher, Bismarck, Austin Fisher, Fargo, Calista, Katelyn, Anna & Isaiah Heley, Lidgerwood; and many nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by her funeral at 10:30 a.m. at Milnor Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Milnor.
