Mitzi M. Murphy, age 70, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family by her side. Born in Luzerne County, PA, Mitzi was the daughter of the late John Matthew and Mildred Marie (Morgavich) Murphy. Raised in Lansford, she was a graduate of Panther Valley High School Class of 1966.

Mitzi was a proud alumni of Penn State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Science. She was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, as well as the Penn State Alumni Association- Delaware Chapter. Aside from her family and her parents, Penn State and Joe Paterno were next in her heart.

Before retiring three years ago, Mitzi was an Environmental Health Specialist for Delaware Health and Social Services in the Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection, where she had worked for 45 years inspecting local nursing homes and hospitals. Mitzi dearly loved her family. Mitzi was the ultimate Conrad Athletics fan, where she could be found cheering on the sidelines of every volleyball and football game cheering on the Sommers (her great nieces and nephews).

She and her sisters loved going to all the local church bazaars and spending time in Rehoboth and Dewey beach reliving her younger years. Mitzi is survived by her siblings, John Matthew Murphy, Jr., Catherine “Kay Ann” Sommers and Jeanne M. Blonsky; her nephews, Ed and his wife Anita Sommers, and Sean Murphy; her niece, Kate Lyn Blonsky; her great nephews, Patrick Murphy, Edward and Eric Sommers; and her great nieces, Erin, Eva and Ella Sommers. Family and friends may visit from 5 to 6:30 PM on Friday, March 8 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd.

, Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Celebration of Mitzi’s Life will begin at 6:30 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Conrad Schools of Science.
