Neil William Morgan, 78, passed away on April 24, 2018, in Salt Lake City, UT, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Montpelier, ID, on August 7, 1939, to Evan and Lela (Saunders) Morgan, he grew up as a farm boy in Liberty, ID, where he learned a great work ethic. After graduating from Fielding High School in Paris, ID, and serving an LDS mission in New Zealand, he married his high school sweetheart, LaNae Keetch Hirschi, on June 8, 1962.

He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and… Read More » PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Utah State University, once again showing his determination and love of learning. He had a gift for teaching and was employed as a professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, USU, and BYU-Idaho, where he retired in 2004. He also took his young family on a one-year sabbatical to London where he taught at the City University.

Neil and his family are incredibly grateful to the anonymous kidney donor who helped Neil enjoy an additional 18 years without having to endure dialysis. In 2006, Neil and LaNae were called to serve an LDS mission in Martin’s Cove where his favorite activity became calling square dancing to the tune of “Oh Johnny, Oh! ” As a faithful and steadfast member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he devoted his time to many callings, including serving as a temple officiator later in life.

His family loved his quick wit and razor-sharp intellect. He was an avid reader and delighted in reading to his grandchildren. Everyone knows him as soft spoken and gentle, never speaking an unkind word toward or about anyone.

He held many titles, but his favorite was “Grandpa”. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Stephen Neil Morgan, granddaughter Julie Ann Cook, sister LouJean Allred, and brother Doyle Morgan. He is survived by his wife LaNae; daughters Debbie (James) Cook, Providence, UT, and Lisa (Maury) Flake, Apple Valley, MN, and son Kevan (Lori) Morgan, Bothell, WA; siblings: Verla Todd, Carolyn Park, and Grant Morgan; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018, at Nyman Funeral Home, 753 S 100 E, Logan, UT. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9-10:30 a.m. and on Sunday, April 29, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Interment will be in the St. Charles Cemetery, St. Charles, ID.
